Petra Nemcova is a Czechoslovakian born fashion supermodel. She was discovered at the age of 16 during a national talent search in Czechoslovakia. Most notably she was featured on the cover of the 2003 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and was also a Victoria's Secret Angel. In December 2004, While in Thailand with her fiance Simon Altee, Petra suffered a broken pelvis and serious internal injuries when a tsunami hit the resort they were staying in. She managed to hold onto the top of a palm tree, reportedly for eight hours, until she was rescued, her then-fiancé, Simon Atlee, was killed in the tsunami. After her survival from the tsunami, she started a charitable campaign The Happy Hearts Fund for disadvantaged youngsters who have had to endure hardship and who are not receiving the essential and sustainable help they need for healthy childhood development.
